At exactly 5:17 p.m. on a warm day in February, the sun slips behind the San Jacinto Mountains in La Quinta, casting a sublime glow on PGA WEST® residential communities and championship golf courses far below. From any vantage point, you can understand why people have made their first or second home at PGA WEST®, which encompasses nine resort and private golf courses, five clubhouses, and multiple restaurants. Yet beyond the stunning natural beauty and exceptional amenities, Members at The Club at PGA WEST® ensure new and existing Members feel at home right away.
“We came for the facilities, and we stayed for the people,” says Membership Ambassador Chair Marci Heslov, who relocated to PGA WEST full-time with her husband in January of 2020. The Member Ambassador program consists of approximately 20 couples who regularly reach out to newcomers and even long-time Members who want to reengage with the Club. “What I like to tell people when they come is you may walk into a room that looks like a room full of strangers, but really it’s a room full of friends you haven’t met yet,” adds Heslov.
PGA WEST® Membership Sales Manager Tammy Garcia notes that in the early days of COVID, Members seized opportunities to get creative—particularly those who had just joined and didn’t know anyone—and make new connections, despite the fact some amenities were temporarily closed.
The result is a special culture and newfound zest for the Club that has brought Members deeper into the fold and continues to cultivate an atmosphere of warmth and congeniality that results in long-lasting friendships. This pervasive spirit of giving includes supporting the PGA WEST® Education Fund, which assists PGA WEST® team members and their families in continuing their education.
The Club at PGA WEST® offers a full calendar of Member events throughout the year—the opening party of the season in November sells out and many special events are always well-attended like a recent bingo night, a fun and lively gathering that drew 160 Members. The dynamic array of events and activities also encompass men’s and women’s golf, tennis, pickleball and bocce leagues; Member-Guest golf tournaments; happy hours, wine tastings and culinary dinners; art-inspired events, book clubs, card games and social groups and much, much more. Thanks to PGA WEST’s new partnership with Acrisure Arena, the Club at PGA WEST is the only club in the Coachella Valley with a private suite at the Acrisure Arena for its Members. The new 11,000 seat live entertainment venue opened its doors in December 2022 and hosts concerts, events, and Coachella Valley Firebirds hockey team games throughout the year.
Taking full advantage of the amazing climate and setting, Members embrace an active lifestyle. If they’re not on the course or courts, you’ll find them working out in the sports club, enjoying the grand oasis pool, biking and hiking, on a birding walk, and enjoying the range of indoor and open-air recreational activities.
Known as a “club built by friends,” Membership is by referral and invitation, and The Club has tiered Membership offerings.
